Meet Jenny

Jenny, the author of the websiteHi! I'm Jenny, the creator of this website. I am studying for my master's degree in Brand Development at Bath Spa University's School of Art and Design in Bath, England this year. For my dissertation, I wanted to create a brand that promoted the lovely local and delicious food that I miss so much from home. I will be sharing with you essential information about our food industry that I learn from books, magazines, and news articles in a hopefully digestible format on this site. Be sure to check out the section on Numbers, because I am sure you will be astonished by what you learn!

How did I get so interested in the food industry? I'm not sure really, I've always enjoyed eating. I have very vivid memories of meals with friends at which I discovered new favorite foods. I love preparing colorful, nourishing meals, and more importantly, eating them. I also love art. In 2005 I entered a poster contest called "The Art of Eating Well" sponsored by a grant from the Kellogg Foundation. I had to create an image that would become the face of a program that the Western Mountains Alliance and Maine Alternative Agricultural Association were working on to create a vital and viable local food system. To my surprise, I won, and now I get the warm fuzzies when I walk around my hometown and see my poster. Neat side story - today I was happy to read in the local paper that my favorite farmers have gotten their organic squash into the local school system, and saw that my poster was featured in the press photo! (See here.) Two things that made me happy - local food in local schools and my poster.

Other things that I enjoy. I have a confession to make. I am a bit of a geek. I love making websites, and actually enjoy getting lost in code. It's a bit magical if you think about it, you put in the correct code, and beautiful pages display online. I also enjoy traveling, if you didn't guess that from where I chose to get my master's degree. I love being outdoors, and at home enjoy hiking, canoeing, swimming, skiing, and making snowmen. I am a sucker for new books.  Especially art books. And I have a slight obsession with magazines. Especially those that contain the words "Wedding" in their titles. My fiance and I are planning to get married after we graduate, and as a designer and food lover, I am very much enjoying the planning of such a celebration.

Well, that's a bit about me, I hope you enjoy the site, and at the very least, learn something new.

RSU 20 is doing great work! I am going to post your url here because it didn’t show up in your post for those who might want to copy and paste:

I strongly believe that what kids eat has a direct affect on how they perform at school. I hope other schools will be able to follow RSU 20′s example!
